Subject: Jeff Shu's Slide Show

Dear Chia-Hui,

I received photos of Jeff Shu today. The size of them was huge. However, I found the size could be reduced significantly by procedures below.

1. Copied the pictures to a new Photoshop file.

2. Made the pictures better by clicking "Image" --> "Adjust"--> "Auto contrast" and "Auto level" in the Photoshop.

3. Saved files as JEPG and chose medium resolution, which was the key and the resolutions in the PowerPoint were virtually the same (I did a head-to-head comparison test of two pictures already).

4. The size of files was thus reduced. An example of size reduction: Original size of picture 3, the largest size of Jeff's pictures, was 940 KB. The size was reduced to 154 KB.

5. The size of files could be further reduced. 

6. Opened a PowerPoint and inserted the picture to a new file.

7. Copied the picture to a new Photoshop file.

8. Saved the file as JEPG and chose medium resolution, which was the key and the resolutions in the PowerPoint were virtually the same (I did a head-to-head comparison test of two pictures already).

9. The size of the file was thus reduced. An example of further reduction: First reduction size of picture 3 was 154 KB, now the size was 111 KB. 

Thus, using the above procedures, I could send you these photos in significantly smaller sizes. Attached please find the Slide Show of Jeff Shu that I made with PowerPoint, including memo of each picture under each picture. There are 11 pictures in the order as Jeff Shu sent. 

By the way, if Chau-Feng Wu's PowerPoint Slide Show is not too good, could you please redo it?

Dear Chia-Hui,

I have been trying to call you since around 9 PM till now, but your line has been busy. 

How many people have sent you photos? You may receive some photos around October 31. If photos cannot be made by the reunion day, you can bring them to the reunion and try to make it then or make it after the reunion, as we can always put it into the CD if it cannot be made in time.

Below are some notes about scanning photos and making Slide Show.

1. You may find a part-time student to do it, the pay is $100/h. 

2. Total CD to be made: 50 (classmates 43, teachers 6, Tunghai Chem Dept 1). 

3. DPI for scanning: 200-300 dpi may be good enough, it may take much longer time to scan if the DPI is too high. 

4. At least 3 pictures can be scanned at a time (to save time). Then one picture can be copied to PhotoShop at a time. 

5. The contrast and level of scanned pictures may be poor. It can be made better by using "Auto Contrast" and "Auto Level" functions under "Image" in PhotoShop. PhotoImpact may have similar functions.

We should have more than $500 budget for making the Slide Show if it's not enough.
